A whole community in Istanbul learned sign language to involve their neighbor with hearing impairment

This is an amazing advertisement put together by the Leo Burnett ad firm to promote Samsung’s new video call center for the hearing impaired. The ad, called “Hearing Hands”, starts with a young man named Muaharrem and his sister, Ozlem, taking a trip out in their local community for what Muaharrem thinks is a normal day.

What he discovers is that every person he meets that day is using sign language to speak with him. This is all starting to seem strange, until he is in the public square and is told that the entire thing was part of an advertisement. Watch the video, but be warned: you may feel emotion.

While you watch, imagine what we could do in our own community to see people with all kinds of disability accepted and involved in our community. What if in Yakima and Sunnyside we took such extreme measures to make sure that our family, friends, and neighbors feel involved in their every day life? We hope this video inspires you to think big thoughts about making our community stronger by involving people with disabilities.
