TONY HAS CONNECTIONS!
Anthony Pepper’s Journey: Community Inclusion and Meaningful Connections
Anthony (Tony) Pepper has been a part of Entrust Community Services since 2006. His journey began with the adult day health program, but as Entrust transitioned away from those services, Tony faced challenges. With his hours reduced, he felt lost, struggling with a sense of purpose and belonging. His family noticed the impact on his mood and well-being. However, when Tony joined Community Inclusion Services, everything changed.
Through Community Inclusion, Tony found not only a renewed sense of purpose but also opportunities to build meaningful relationships. Twice a week, he ventures into the community, engaging in activities that bring him joy while also giving his sister and caregiver some valuable time for herself. His family has noticed a significant improvement in his mood and behavior, as he now has a space where he can express himself, foster independence, and form genuine connections.
One of Tony’s greatest successes has been his time at the local Community Center, where he participates in puzzles on Tuesdays and Fridays. His visits coincide with a coloring club, and over time, he built relationships with its members using nonverbal communication—gestures, facial expressions, and body language—along with support from his Community Support Specialist, Hollie.
Tony has successfully built a natural support with Bonnie, a member of the coloring group. Their friendship has grown so much that Bonnie has thrown him birthday parties and even brings puzzles for them to work on together. Known for his infectious smile, Seahawks attire, and love for donuts, Tony has become a cherished member of the community.
Community members often share their appreciation for Tony:
💙 “I love his smile.”
🧩 “Tony is the puzzle king.”
✨ “Even when everyone’s grumpy, Tony’s smile brightens our day.”
Tony’s journey with Community Inclusion has not only transformed his life but has also enriched the lives of those around him. His story is a testament to the power of community, connection, and the impact of having a space to truly belong.
