Matthew Builds Confidence, Stability, and Pride
In 2012, he was introduced to Entrust through the school’s Discovery Program, a service designed to help young people explore their strengths, interests, and future career paths. It was the beginning of a journey that would shape Matthew’s confidence, skills, and long-term employment success.
Today—more than a decade later—Matthew is thriving in a job he loves, has built lasting workplace confidence, and continues to grow with steady support from Entrust’s Individual Supported Employment Program.
From High School Program to Workforce Success
After graduating, Matthew transitioned from the Discovery Program into Entrust’s Individual Supported Employment (ISE) services. This program offers job coaching, skills training, and personalized support to help individuals succeed in competitive employment.
For Matthew, that support quickly proved invaluable.
He shared that having a Job Coach provided the confidence and reassurance he needed in the workplace:
“It helps me feel secure in my employment, which makes my life easier.”
A Job That Brings Pride and Purpose
One of the most memorable turning points for Matthew was the day he learned he had been hired at Banner Bank as part of their janitorial team.
He remembers how thrilled he felt receiving the news—proud, excited, and ready to work.
Since then, Banner Bank has become a place where Matthew feels he belongs. His position gives him purpose, stability, and pride in his daily accomplishments. He enjoys his work and plans to stay with the company long-term.
His Employment Specialist, Ilene Uerling, shared that Matthew was overjoyed when asked to have his success story highlighted. “He is so proud of himself and talks about it every work shift,” she said. “He would love a copy of the story when it’s out.”
Overcoming Challenges and Finding Balance
Before coming to Entrust, navigating the job search alone felt stressful and overwhelming for Matthew. He wasn’t sure how to find a job that matched his abilities, schedule, and personal needs.
Entrust helped remove that barrier.
Matthew shared that Entrust made a big difference by helping him secure work that fit his strengths and allowed for balance in his life:
“It took away the burden of stress trying to go through that process on my own.”
With guidance from Entrust staff—including Karmel, Abraham, and Job Coach Ilene—Matthew found a role that fits him perfectly.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
Matthew’s goals are rooted in stability. He wants to continue working at Banner Bank, grow his skills, and remain successful in his job long-term. With Entrust’s continued support, he feels well-prepared for the future.
And when asked if he would recommend the program to others, Matthew didn’t hesitate:
“I would recommend Entrust Community Services because my experience with them has been great! Especially because of Karmel, Abraham, and my Job Coach Ilene.”
